Our surgeons are heavily involved in research in cardiothoracic surgery, and have published widely in many of the most recognised journals in the field.
Working with the Cardiac Surgery Quality and Outcomes research team at Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University, our research has been supported by major grant organisations including the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the National Heart Foundation, with additional support from grants from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Flinders Foundation, and medical device companies.
Our surgeons also work with research students undertaking Masters and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) higher degrees at Flinders University and other tertiary organisations.
All procedures performed by our surgeons, in both public and private hospitals, contribute de-identified data to the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS) National Database, the Australian and New Zealand Collaborative Perfusion Registry (ANZCPR) and the Australasian Cardiac Outcomes Registry (ACOR).
