Ms Julie Pick became a registered nurse in 1986. Over the next 15 years she progressed through senior clinical leadership roles in various healthcare environments, both public and private, metropolitan and regional. This culminated in her roles as Nurse Manager in Cardiac Surgery at
Ashford Hospital (1997-1998) and then Clinical Nurse Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Flinders Medical Centre (1999-2003) before moving into a role as Extended Practice Nurse in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Julie qualified as a Nurse Practitioner following completion of her Master of Specialist Nursing Practice (Critical Care) in 2001. In 2010, Julie became credentialled to practice in areas of heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and heart transplantation managing the complex care of this group of patients in her role at Flinders Medical Centre Cardiology Service.
Julie formalised her extensive clinical experience in critical care and cardiothoracic surgery in 2017 and was endorsed as the first Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner in South Australia, accepting an appointment to work with the team at Adelaide Cardiothoracic. At Adelaide Cardiothoracic, Julie plays a key role in preparing and assessing patients for surgery, acting as a point of contact for clinical advice before and after surgery, and assisting with comprehensive care after discharge in liaison with the patients’ usual healthcare team.
Julie has a special interest in optimisation of cardiac function pre- and post-cardiac surgery, incorporating lifestyle modification and pharmacotherapy management to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
